| New Rhythms Foundation (NRF) creates interactive and entertaining drum, music, and storytelling circles to unique settings such as nursing care facilities, adult day service programs and program centers for the physically and developmentally disabled. Using a unique format of percussion, storytelling and singing, NRF programs illustrate how universal applications of awareness, compassion and intuition provide stimulation to the body, mind and spirit. Blending challenge and delight, our programs encourage community involvement and personal successes for diverse generations and cultures. | |

A van, dubbed the 'Drumobile' is stocked with over seventy drums and specialized stands, designed and built by NRF. With training, Activity Coordinators can facilitate their own in-house programs, using the resources of program development, delivery and pick-up of instruments offered by NRF. The enthusiastic response of participants, volunteers and health professionals promises that the innovative programs offered by the New Rhythms Foundation will continue to significantly contribute to the health and well being of elders and individuals with special needs. |

New
Rhythms Foundation was created after founder Heather MacTavish
received a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in early 1995 and refused
to submit to a declining physical and cognitive existence. After
exploring numerous alternative and mainstream therapies, she discovered
that drumming and music contributed significantly to her healing.
She continues to experience positive and physical and emotional
benefits from her new life's work. This in turn infuses her with
the energy to design programs, implement training workshops, and
facilitate regular drum~story~song circles™,
give presentations to professional organizations and oversee the
day to day operations of the foundation. 'Speaking from the trenches',
she offers her celebration of life and spirit as a model for others.
In addition to contributing to the book "The Healing
Power of the Drum" by Dr. Robert Lawrence Friedman,
numerous articles have appeared over the last five years documenting
the positive changes in the populations served by NRF. |
