New Rhythms Foundation Mission

NRF MISSION

The mission of New Rhythms Foundation (NRF) is to promote a dynamic model for wellness and unity. NRF provides events focused on integration of diverse generations, cultures and levels of ability using the medium of music and drumming.

NRF brings drum and music circles to unique settings such as skilled nursing facilities, adult day service programs and program centers for the developmentally disabled.

New Rhythms Foundation provides opportunities to delight individuals and encourage exploration of drumming as a medium of self-expression and creativity.

Among our goals are:

To bring Spirit and Joy through a community music making experience
To improve quality of life for people with developmental, cognitive and physical disabilities
To provide opportunities to use drumming as a medium to work in a group, learning group dynamics and cooperation.
To provide situations in which individuals with disabilities can interact with non-disabled persons.
To provide exhilarating and fun opportunities for exploration of past pleasures, present successes and future growth.
To educate the community regarding the needs and talents of individuals with developmental and physical disabilities (demonstrating what individuals with disabilities can do, instead of what they can’t do.)
To provide resources for the research and development of various tools/aids for use by participants with special needs.
To provide specialized facilitation training focused on working effectively with cognitively and physically challenged individuals.
To provide the NRF “Drumobile”, stocked with drums and special adaptive equipment, to NRF-trained facilitators.
