Heather MacTavish

Heather MacTavish, founding director of New Rhythms Foundation (NRF) creates methodologies to enhance the lives of others, particularly those who are physiologically and cognitively challenged.  She has twice received a grant from the Marin Arts Council supporting the pioneering programs offered by NRF.  With a lifetime of physical challenges, Heather serves as a role model, showing others that disabilities may be managed successfully when spirit, acceptance and a senseof humor are part of the process. 

Arthur Hull

Arthur Hull is a motivational speaker, keynote presenter and a master at facilitating groups of people through a joyful and inspiring experience using music and rhythm. Recognized as the father of the community drum circle movement worldwide, his facilitator trainings and playshops are attracting participants from around the world. He is the author of Drum Circle Spirit, Facilitating Human Potential through Rhythm, a book that explicitly details the steps for creating a successful community drum circle event.

An experienced musician and group leader Arthur's charismatic personality reverberates throughout his fun, dynamic and inspiring events. Arthur leads his participants to a place where rhythmical communication is accessible to all. www.drumcircle.com

 

Terry Garthwaite

Terry Garthwaite writes songs and chants for the purpose of connecting to the world through spirit.  She has taught singing for over 30 years in the Bay Area in classes, workshops, and private lessons.  The lead singer and musician in The Joy of Cooking, Terry is a rock icon who has been creating infectious music and delighting audiences since the sixties. She currently guides a weekly hand-drum jam and leads vocal retreats and classes.

Terry has twice been awarded the Marin Arts Council’s Composers grant and played a key role in the past three NRF performances at the Marin Senior Information Fair.  Her Affirhythms™ (affirming rhythms are positive musical chants with a message of heart and hope) are a staple in the NRF empowerment kit.     www.terrygarthwaite.com

 

Deane Juhan

Deane Juhan is the author of Job’s Body: A Handbook for Bodywork, and an avid percussionist. His work offers a detailed reference library on the workings of the body-mind, and provides a tool and practical guide for the health professional, movement therapist, or instructor.  Job’s Body gives a richly detailed picture of how bodywork is also mind work that can alter the course of many ailments and change deep-seated patterns.

Deane developed and chairs the anatomy and physiology department of the Trager Institute certification program.  He has developed and conducts training series for body workers and therapists of all kinds, which he presents throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

 

David Hughes

David is the Day Program Director for Opportunity for Independence which was created to develop individualized programs to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities throughout Marin County.   David has an MS in Rehabilitation Administration and has worked in the field for many years. The behavior management programs headed by David are community-based with vocational and social/ recreational elements. 

David is committed to improvement of the quality of services to individuals with developmental disabilities and realizes the value of exploring new and unique mediums which can be significant variables in growth and quality of life.

Mika Scott

Mika Scott is a professional drummer, musical improviser and facilitator.  He has been teaching basic drumming technique, traditional afro-Cuban,  and African rhythms for over fifteen years.  He leads classes and workshops blending movement, dance, percussion, and meditation, while encouraging improvisation and expressive play.
